There are many different community centres in West Vancouver. Some of them are the Aquatic centre, Moovit, the Community centre, and others. These all offer different benefits for residents of West Vancouver. They provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy themselves in the city.
Aquatic centre
West Vancouver Aquatic and Community Centres provide a full range of health and wellness services. They also offer a wide variety of social community programs. In addition, they are a landmark facility for the community.
The facility includes a six-lane lap pool, a diving tank, a family hot tub, a waterslide, and a fitness centre. Additionally, the centre features a steam room and a dry sauna. It is fully wheelchair accessible, and features easy to maintain surface treatments.

The facility was designed to LEED Gold standards. The project was designed by Fast + Epp, who developed a structural solution with curved glulam purlins and shaped glulam wishbone columns.
The facility also features an atrium. The atrium connects the community and aquatic centres, and provides a welcoming entrance and a true public space. This atrium is connected to the community centre by a three-storey circulation spine.
In addition to the recreational facilities, the centre provides arts and cultural opportunities. In particular, it is the host venue for the Mies Schootman Invitational Swim Meet.
There is a wide variety of indoor pools throughout the Lower Mainland. These include the Hillcrest Rec Centre, Maple Grove, and New Brighton Pool.
In addition, there are outdoor pools at Kitsilano, Stanley Park, and Second Beach. Another great place to go for a splash is Cultus Lake.
In 2022, voters approved borrowing $103 million to build a new Vancouver Aquatic Centre. Although not yet completed, the facility is expected to be open in 2021.
Community centre

There are also summer camps for kids, including skating, biking and skimboarding. In addition, the community centre hosts an annual PumpkinFest, which includes a variety of activities, including face painting, pony rides, a petting farm, and a free drop-in skate.
A multi-use meeting room is also available, which can be used for small presentations, large meetings, or community events. A fitness room and aerobics area are also available.
The West Vancouver Community Centre is a state-of-the-art facility, offering a wide range of social and recreational programs. It is also a full-service community health centre. Design challenges

The facility was designed to be energy efficient and incorporates green features like an atrium and passive cooling stormwater system.
The Seaview Room, meanwhile, is a dazzling space enveloped by daylight and reflects the natural features of its surroundings. In addition to its function as a formal gathering space, the room also serves as a bridge between the Community and Aquatic Centres.
A few years ago, the city of West Vancouver decided to renovate and upgrade the aquatic centre and its adjacent community centre. As part of the process, the West Vancouver Community Centres Society presented a vision for the site. They wanted to integrate several different types of facilities and create a new centre to serve as the centerpiece of the West Coast social fabric.
However, before the vision could become a reality, the community had to find a way to fund the project. This led to a four-phase public engagement process that involved over 800 respondents, a community newsletter, and a city-wide survey.
As part of the process, a district-led committee studied potential financing and development options for the community centre. Ultimately, a plan was adopted to build a new sportsplex, close the West Vancouver Tennis Club, and relocate the seniors’ activity centre.
Artwork requirements
The District of West Vancouver has announced the requirements for artists who wish to create artwork for their community centres. Artists must have skills in both the creative and technical phases of implementing their projects. They must also be able to meet deadlines and stay within the approved budget.
For West Vancouver Community Centres, art work should be interactive and engaging. It should also be a part of the overall community and reflect the spirit of the area.
A public art piece will be installed outside the south entrance of the community centre. This art work is designed to celebrate the community and encourage interaction. Located between the water fountain and seniors’ activity centre, the pieces will be placed near each other and will be playful.
Artists who wish to participate in this project must be able to meet the deadlines and understand the vision of the project. They must also be able to create an interactive, natural and vandal-resistant piece.
As part of the West Vancouver Community Centre’s design process, the arts community in West Vancouver was invited to share their ideas about what kind of public art would fit in this area. The results from this process were the Arts & Culture Facilities Plan. Developed by the Arts Facilities Advisory Committee, this plan outlined the current facilities in West Vancouver and assessed them against specific criteria.
