West Vancouver Presbyterian Church

West Vancouver Presbyterian Church is a place where many in the community have met. It is a focus for Christian worship, education and rites-of-passage (baptisms, weddings, funerals), a source of comfort during difficult times, a welcoming venue for community, support groups, youth activities, and outreach initiatives.

For 110 years, we have been serving the Upper Lonsdale and North Shore community through worship, education, and a variety of outreach programs. In addition to this, we have a very active Music program.

Worship

We offer a variety of worship services to suit your needs.

The church is a diverse congregation with members from all walks of life and in all stages of their faith journeys. We are a multi-cultural community with the common goal of helping each other grow closer to God and one another.
The church is a registered charity with a charitable identifier of C-PBC and operates in the spirit of the gospels. The church is led by a team of ministers and an ever-growing community of lay leaders and volunteers. The church offers a number of programs to meet the needs of members and visitors of all ages including an innovative faith-based youth group, a vibrant inter-generational Sunday school program, a robust music ministry, and an active congregational support team.

The church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. The congregation consists of approximately 350 members. Our mission is to be a welcoming and inclusive community that engages with and serves our neighbours in West Vancouver, Burnaby and beyond. We provide the community with quality programs, services and facilities that serve as a catalyst to build a thriving and meaningful community.

Education

West Vancouver Presbyterian Church offers many educational opportunities for the children and youth of our community. This includes Sunday School, Youth Group, and a variety of other activities. The church also has a number of volunteers who are committed to making a difference in our community.

Our church is located in a beautiful community with many amenities and opportunities for recreation. It is home to Canada’s first shopping mall, Park Royal, and the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal, one of the main connecting hubs between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia.

The community is also home to a variety of schools, including a high school and the West Vancouver Community School. The community has a strong reputation for high standards in education, with a number of schools ranked among the best in North America.

As a result, the community has become a popular place to live and raise families. In fact, West Vancouver is home to Canada’s largest scuba diving community and is also known for its many beaches, lakes, and parks.

Our congregation has a long history of serving our community and is always looking for new ways to serve. This year we have partnered with the Cariboo Ministry to offer a number of volunteer opportunities for those who are interested in helping out with this important community outreach program.

We also offer a variety of other educational opportunities, including classes and workshops. For example, we have an ongoing series of weekly Bible studies led by Rev. Mark Jones (Ph.D., Leiden, 2009).

The church is a member of the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America). Like other evangelical denominations, the PCA holds to the doctrine that God has ordained marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman.

It is the belief of the PCA that sexual activity outside of a marriage between two committed Christians is sinful and contrary to God’s Word. In addition, the PCA believes that a life of Christian stewardship is a key component of a successful life in Christ.

Another important part of our community is the Enhance West Van Food Security program, which helps provide grocery gift cards to people in need. This invaluable program has helped more than 227 local youth and their families, and is a community award winner.

Community

West Vancouver is located on the north shore of English Bay and is part of the Metro Vancouver region. It is a major commercial hub, with Canada’s first shopping mall, Park Royal, nearby as well as the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal.

It’s also home to Cypress Provincial Park, one of the most scenic in the province. The city is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, and it’s easy to see why. It is a safe and family-friendly community with plenty of parks and playgrounds, and an abundance of entertainment options.

For those who are looking for a more active role in their community, there are a wide range of opportunities to get involved. From joining the choral group to volunteering on committees, there is something for everyone.

Aside from regular worship services, members of West Vancouver Presbyterian Church can participate in a number of other activities. Several of these involve serving others outside the congregation, from providing meals to those in need to raising funds for charities such as the Alzheimer’s Society or the SPCA.

Getting involved with a local community group is a great way to make new friends and get involved with the people of your neighborhood. There are numerous groups to choose from, including clubs, service organizations, sports leagues, scouts, and more.

While it’s not easy to determine the best way to spend your time, the most important thing to remember is that you are in a safe and supportive environment. That’s why our staff and volunteers are on hand every day to support you in your efforts to become a better person and a better community member.

The best part of being a member of West Vancouver Presbyterian Church is being part of a large congregation with an extensive network of friendships and support. That is a true gift that no matter what your age, you can take advantage of when you join. The church is a wonderful place to build your spiritual and social capital, and you’ll be glad you did!

Outreach

Our outreach programs go far beyond the four walls of our church building. They include Global Missions (missions outside of Canada and the United States); Local Missions; Mercy Ministries; and Church Planting, both locally and regionally.

West Vancouver Presbyterian Church supports a number of programs through donations, fundraising, and other efforts. One of our most successful outreach programs is our Church Pantry, which provides food and other necessities to low income families in the community.

The Church Pantry is run by a team of volunteers. These dedicated volunteers stock the pantry every Saturday morning, ensuring that families have enough food to eat well over the weekend. This program has helped thousands of people throughout the years, and serves more than 200 families each month.

Another major outreach effort is Neighbor to Neighbor Care, which helps congregation members who are struggling with a range of issues from simple home repairs and maintenance, to the needs of aging parents. This volunteer-driven ministry is vital to the congregation’s mission of providing love, hope and healing through compassion.

We also offer assistance to those who are incarcerated through our Angel Tree Christmas project, which provides gifts for children of incarcerated parents. These gifts are delivered to them at Christmas with a message from their parent, letting them know they are loved and that they are not alone in this journey.

In addition to these programs, West Vancouver Presbyterian Church supports a variety of other organizations in the community, including Villages of Clark County, Woman of Wonder and Winter Hospitality Overflow. The church also offers a Meals Ministry for those who need a meal or are unable to prepare their own meals.

Finally, we participate in several local charities including the Navvy Jack House Citizens Group and The North Shore Community Services Society, among others. These groups help people in need with their housing, health care and education needs.

Lastly, we support the Grace Network Church Planting Movement by helping to start new churches across Canada. This work is directed by John and Caron Smed, who have been church planters for many years.
