Movie theatres are a great way to spend a night out and experience a new movie. Whether you are a first-time moviegoer or a seasoned veteran, there is something for everyone!

The West Vancouver area is home to many great movie theatres. Here is a list of some that have been in operation for over a century.

Park Royal Cineplex

West Vancouver is a beautiful place to live with incredible access to nature, beaches, mountains, recreation facilities and schools. It also offers a wide range of shopping, dining and cultural activities.

The area has an extensive list of movie theatres to choose from. Most theatres feature the latest blockbusters and independent films as well. Some theatres also host free summer movies.

Cineplex Cinemas is located at 202 Park Royal S in West Vancouver and features 11 auditoriums with a variety of “enhanced movie-watching experiences” including UltraAVX, D-Box motion seats and VIP Cinemas.

VIP Cinemas, which are licensed to sell alcohol, are designed exclusively for adults and offer luxurious reclining seats as well as in-seat menu service, a licensed lounge and a dedicated box office. Guests can order food and drinks, such as popcorn, fresh salads, burgers, artisanal cheese plates, charcuterie boards and flatbreads.

Unlike other theatres, VIP seats recline, offering a comfortable and relaxing experience for guests of all ages. They are also equipped with a tray table, arm rests that can be raised, and a headrest that can be adjusted independently.

There are a total of 11 screens, and each is equipped with a high-definition screen, digital projection and surround sound. Each auditorium has leather recliner seating and space for up to 212 people.

The new theatre replaces the six-screen Esplanade Cineplex, which closed April 2. Van Lange says the older North Vancouver location doesn’t meet the demand of today’s moviegoers.

Canada‘s top malls are increasingly adding non-retail attractions to attract and keep shoppers on site. That’s a trend discussed in a Retail Council of Canada study released earlier this year.

In addition to traditional concessions, the new Park Royal Cineplex will offer an expanded menu of foods and beverages. That includes a selection of traditional snacks, such as candy and popcorn, as well as a variety of frozen treats from Outtakes and Melts Sweet Creations.

A large majority of the concessions are made with local ingredients from the area. The concession stands will also be stocked with local beer, wine and spirits.

Esplanade Cineplex

As a movie-loving resident of West Vancouver, you’ve likely heard about the construction of a new VIP cinema at Park Royal Shopping Centre. The Cineplex Theatres, a chain that operates over 165 movie theaters across Canada, has been planning to build the 44,000-square-foot theatre since 2017; it was expected to open in the fall of 2018.

In an interview with The Georgia Straight, Sarah Van Lange, communications executive at Cineplex, says that they’ve seen people changing their behaviours and searching for social experiences, so it’s important for them to offer a better experience than ever before. As a result, they’re constantly upgrading their features and services.

There are 11 auditoriums at the new Park Royal location, with all of them offering a variety of movie-going options. Seven traditional auditoriums feature luxury recliner seating, while other auditoriums provide UltraAVX and reclining D-BOX motion seats.

It’s also the first location in Vancouver to host a VIP Cinemas section, which is designed for adults who are interested in a more adult-friendly cinema experience. The section is located in a separate area of the theatre and offers food, drinks, and other amenities, according to a company statement.

Guests can order food and beverages from a wide selection, including fresh salads and burgers or artisanal pizzas that are delivered right to their seats. They can also indulge in frozen treats from Melts Sweet Creations.

Other amenities include free WiFi, a children’s play area, and a large screen TV in the VIP section for those who want to watch a game or sports event. Additionally, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, such as Rusty Gull Neighbourhood Pub and The Lobby Restaurant at Pinnacle at the Pier.

Esplanade Cineplex was the largest of the six North Vancouver movie theatres that closed in 2019. It opened on December 21, 1990 and was formerly operated by Famous Players before being taken over by Empire Theatres, Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex before closing in April.

Hollyburn Theatre
