Mount Seymour
Mount Seymour is a provincial park in the North Shore Mountains of Vancouver, British Columbia. It is about 15 kilometres north of downtown Vancouver, and consists of 35 square kilometres of parkland. It was named for Frederick Seymour, a local businessman who helped establish the park.
It is the easternmost of Vancouver’s three local ski hills and often boasts the most snow. It also features some of the best views in the Lower Mainland. The ski hill also advertises itself as the most affordable ski area in Metro Vancouver. Its season typically lasts from mid-December to mid-April. In the last season, Mount Seymour received about 538 cm of snow.
If you’re looking for a more challenging adventure, try Mount Elsay and Mount Seymour. You’ll gain a thousand metres of elevation, but you’ll be walking through sub-alpine with open vistas. You’ll also have the opportunity to hike to the crest of Tim Jones Peak, which offers views of the Lower Mainland. If you’re short on time, you can choose to skip the Mount Seymour and go straight to Tim Jones Peak.
Mount Seymour has many trails, some of which are narrow and through the trees while others are wide and offer stunning views of the Lower Mainland. The mountain has five lifts, including a double chairlift and a high-speed quad. There is even a magic carpet on Mount Seymour for kids.
The Mount Seymour ski resort is located on the west side of Mount Seymour. It has a large parking area and information board. Its map and trails are clearly marked. There is a steep section of rock that you can walk on, but you can skip that if you prefer.
Mount Strachan
If you’re interested in hiking up a mountain in West Vancouver, consider Mount Strachan. With a 10-minute climb up steep rock, this mountain offers amazing views of the city and surrounding area. It’s less well-known than other Cypress hikes in the area, but it’s quickly gaining popularity. The trail is mostly well marked, and the views are spectacular.
The hike starts from the Cypress Mountain ski resort parking lot, which is located at the base of Mount Strachan. You can reach this lot by driving towards Highway #1 West. After you’ve parked, follow the signs for Cypress Provincial Park and Mount Strachan. After the parking lot, you’ll find the Mount Strachan trail on the left.
Once you’ve reached the base of Mount Strachan, you can hike the trail to the summit. A signpost is available at each trail junction. Hikers can also follow the Howe Sound Crest Trail to the summit. The trail is well marked with signs, so it’s easy to navigate.
There are a few things that you should know about the mountain and its ski resort. In the year 1939, the Lions Gate Bridge opened, making the summits accessible for the public. The area was designated a Provincial Park and B.C. Parks opened a ski resort at the southern section of the park. The area continued to grow and became a popular destination, even hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. The mountain features three major mountains and 21 impressive peaks.
Mount Bishop
The first ascent of Mount Bishop was made by the British Columbia Mountaineering Club in 1909. Fred Mills, a member of the club, led a group of climbers. They camped out on the top of Indian Arm, opposite Crocker Island, and then split up into two parties to tackle Mount Bishop and Mount Elsay. The two groups reached the summits of the mountains by 9.30am.
The trail to Mount Bishop is marked with cairns and flagging, and offers different routes to reach the top. The hike is relatively easy, although there are some steep sections. There is a small lake on the eastern side of the mountain, and there are views of Seymour Lake from the northern portion of the trail.
The trail to Mount Bishop starts from Spur 4, near the Seymour River Valley. If you’re biking, the easiest way to get there is to take the Seymour Valley Trailway, a paved road. Then, cycle up the Seymour Mainline, another paved road, but only service vehicles can drive through it. You’ll pass the Seymour Fish Hatchery on your right and turn right at the top of the mountain.
Mount Bishop is 4,947 feet high and the tallest peak in the park. The hike requires patience and an adventurous spirit. The trail starts with a steep ascent through PNW forest before traversing a trail over rocks and boulders. The summit can be covered in clouds during storm season.
The North Shore Trail is a gem of a trail that takes hikers through the most beautiful parts of the North Shore. It follows a granite ridge line and takes hikers to swimming tarns. It’s a physically demanding trail, so it’s best suited for experienced hikers who have already done some hiking in the Vancouver area.
Hollyburn Peak
The Hollyburn Peak is a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders in West Vancouver. It is 7 km long and has an elevation gain of 460m. While the trail starts out easy, it quickly becomes very steep. While the entire trail is relatively short, the steep sections can be quite tiring.
Getting to the top of Hollyburn Peak requires an excellent set of hiking skills. The trail begins in a meadow. It then winds up the mountain and ends at a rocky outcrop. There, you’ll see panoramic views of West Vancouver, the Georgia Strait, and Grouse Mountain. If you’re hiking the trail at night, keep an eye out for bears and other wildlife.
Hollyburn Peak is one of many summits in Cypress Provincial Park. It’s a great winter hike because the trails are well maintained and safe. The view from the summit is spectacular. However, it’s not as popular in summer as other trails in the North Shore. In addition, the trail is not as well maintained in the summer, making it difficult to follow.
If you’re looking for a fun hike, Hollyburn Mountain is a great choice. This mountain is accessible by car and has several hiking trails that range from easy to moderate. The mountain itself is capped by numerous glaciers and boasts spectacular views of Vancouver. You can access the trail from Cypress Mountain Resort’s parking lot.
Cypress Mountain Resort provides a full range of winter sports, including snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The ski area is more than 600 acres and has three summits. The resort is located just 30 minutes away from downtown Vancouver. Its restaurants include the Cypress Creek Grill and Gold Medal Cafe.
