Cypress Provincial Park is a provincial park located on the North Shore of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. It has two sections, a 21-kilometer southern portion accessible by road, and a nine-kilometer northern section with hiking trails. The park is largely located in the city of West Vancouver.
The park contains many hiking trails that wind through the park’s dense forest. Many trails are steep and slippery, with steep drops and jumps. One famous drop is Brutus Gap, a step-down, 20-foot drop. There are also easier trails, like the Mystery DH. Other easier trails include the Slippery Canoe, Upper Tall Cans, Firehose, Pull Tab, and Stupid Grouse. More difficult trails include 5th Horseman and Sex Girl.
The park also contains the Cypress Mountain Ski Area. It is operated by Cypress Bowl Recreations Ltd, a subsidiary of Boyne USA. However, the park’s early history is lacking. It was first established around 1942. Its creation was tainted with controversy under the Social Credit government. This led to debate in the BC Legislature and media.
Cypress Falls is an excellent place to hike in the winter. The trail follows Cypress Creek and features two waterfalls. The trail starts from a parking lot near an outhouse, and takes visitors into the forest and uphill.
