The West Vancouver area has a lot to offer to those who are looking for a church. Located on the coast with beautiful views of Howe Sound, West Vancouver offers a vibrant, friendly community with numerous parks and amenities nearby.
Among the most prominent landmarks is St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, a two-storey building that sits in a quiet bush location on 22nd Street.
St. Stephen’s Anglican Church
If you are looking for an Anglican church in West Vancouver, St. Stephen’s is a good option. It has a variety of services to choose from, including traditional Sunday services as well as Saturday and evening services and jazz vespers, which feature live music in addition to the usual service.
The church’s website offers a wealth of information about the congregation and its history, and there is even a book that highlights the church’s first 100 years. Parishioner Janice Harvey culled information from archives and vestry meetings to create the book. She also incorporated stories from members, which helped to make the book feel more personal and real.
For example, she came across a story about Thora Dakin and Duncan James McDonald’s wedding on April 8, 1940. At that time, the church wasn’t on a sidewalk and was simply a collection of steps leading up to the front door. The best man was late and tried to jump the steps but landed in a ditch of water instead.
When the church first started meeting, Fisher notes that they met in private homes for a year before holding their first service in Dundarave Hall. The hall was located on what is now Gordon Road, the rough laneway that runs north from Marine Drive to 22nd Street.
Currently, the church is located on 885-22nd Street. It’s a short walk from the seawall and is just north of John Lawson Park and the West Vancouver Aquatic Centre.
While there are a number of great restaurants and bars near the church, it’s also worth taking advantage of its close proximity to one of the Lower Mainland’s best swimming facilities for kids. The West Vancouver Aquatic Centre has a large pool for long swimming lengths, a giant pool with a river current for kids, diving boards and a water slide, as well as hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas.
The church also holds Jazz Vespers on the first Sunday of every month, which are free to attend and feature big-name local Jazz musicians. They are held at 4:00 pm, and are highly recommended.

A bit of a drive and you’re at the heart of West Vancouver’s culturally and socially diverse fabric. a must see if you’re in the mood for a well rounded experience. The best part is that it’s free! oh, and they serve wine. A good grog is also on the menu. It’s a small world after all! oh, and they’re open on Sundays. During the Victorian era, the congregation became an important networking and social hub for many members of the city. Its political connections and connections to businessmen made it a place where members could meet with one another to discuss issues of the day.
The majority of the congregation was born in Scotland, but the number increased to include some Canadian-born members by the end of the era. This shift was likely a response to the economic crisis of the late 1800s.
It is a very well-maintained building and has a great stained glass window. It also has a very nice choir and an excellent organist.
As part of their ongoing commitment to diversity, the church is a proud supporter of local artists. They have a great arts committee and are often on the lookout for new artists to bring in.

There are several churches in West Vancouver that belong to the Anglican Church of Canada. Each has its own unique style and history, but they all share one common goal: to serve their communities.
The Anglican Church of Canada is divided into regional groupings called dioceses, which are headed by bishops who oversee the spiritual well-being and administration of churches in their area. The Diocese of New Westminster is led by Bishop John Stephens and encompasses over 70 churches across the Lower Mainland.
A group of conservative Anglicans has been fighting the diocese and bishop over four valuable properties in the Lower Mainland. They claimed that the diocese and bishop have no legal authority to give them ownership of these buildings, but a judge ruled in their favour today.
