With over 205 publicly funded long-term care beds, Capilano Care Centre has been one of the most affected North Shore long-term care homes during the COVID-19 outbreak. This was the first outbreak in any North Shore seniors home since the pandemic started this fall, and it resulted in 142 residents and staff becoming ill and 26 dying.
After a devastating outbreak, Capilano Care Centre was among the first care homes on the North Shore to receive a new COVID-19 vaccine in December. Many residents and staff are now fully vaccinated.
The COVID-19 virus has claimed 26 lives and has ravaged the North Shore’s seniors homes this fall, leaving some residents and staff isolated, unable to go outside or have group activities. While Capilano Care Centre was among the earliest to receive the new Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, other care homes have also been hit by the virus.
In addition to the outbreak at Capilano Care Centre, two other care homes on the North Shore – Amica Edgemont Village in North Vancouver and Revera’s Hollyburn House Retirement Residence in West Vancouver – have also been hit by outbreaks of the disease. The outbreaks prompted Amica to isolate all symptomatic residents on the affected units, including for meals and visits, and to stop any group activities.
Respite Care
Respite care is a growing industry that provides short-term stays at nursing homes and other health facilities. This type of service is usually provided by professional nurses and aides who are often employed at a fraction of the cost of regular healthcare providers. The best part is, these professionals can be hired on a contract basis or on an hourly basis depending on the size of your budget. The most successful operators are able to offer their employees competitive rates and other perks such as paid time off.
Capilano Care Centre West Vancouver is not the only retirement home in the area that offers the above mentioned services, but it is one of the few that has a robust and well-run respite care program. To learn more about the benefits of this specialized service, contact us today. We will be happy to answer your questions and help you find the perfect fit for your needs.
